The six medical packages

AAR medical cover is built around six inpatient package levels: Platinum, Gold, Silver Plus, Silver, Bronze and Cover Me. As you move up the levels, the annual inpatient limit and the range of benefits increase — Platinum is the widest cover, and Cover Me is the entry-level package.

The idea is that you pick the package whose limit and benefits fit what your family needs and what you want to spend. Every package covers the essentials of hospital care; the higher packages simply give you a larger annual limit and richer benefits.

What every package includes

Whichever level you choose, the core cover is inpatient: hospital admission, surgery, ICU and specialist treatment. A maternity benefit is included as standard on every package (with a higher limit on the higher packages), and pre-existing and chronic conditions are covered after a waiting period.

You can then add optional outpatient cover for day-to-day care — GP and specialist visits, diagnostics and prescribed medicines — and dental and optical benefits are included once you add outpatient. Treatment is accessed through AAR’s panel of hospitals and clinics.

What determines your price

There is no flat price because a fair premium depends on who is being covered. The main factors are:

The package you choose — a higher inpatient limit costs more. The ages of the members — premiums rise with age. The number of members and family size. Per-person or family-shared cover. And whether you add outpatient (and its limit).

This is why two families on the "same" package can pay very different premiums — and why the quickest way to a real price is to enter your own details in the calculator.

Per-person vs family-shared cover

On per-person cover, each member has their own annual limit, so one person’s claims do not reduce anyone else’s cover. On family-shared cover, a single annual limit is shared across the whole family, which is usually more affordable.

When you build a quote you can compare both side by side and see how each changes the premium.

How to get your exact price

The online medical calculator gives you an instant, no-obligation price. You add the members and their ages, choose a package (or compare all six side by side), optionally add outpatient, and the premium is shown immediately.

From there you can have the quote emailed to you, or complete a short medical form and pay online to take up cover.
