Comprehensive health cover for you and your family.

Medical Insurance

Overview

AAR Medical Insurance is a private health insurance plan that gives you and your family access to quality healthcare across Kenya and the wider East Africa region. Comprehensive inpatient hospital cover is the core of every plan — and includes a maternity benefit as standard — while an optional outpatient plan adds day-to-day care, including dental and optical benefits.

Treatment is accessed through AAR’s extensive panel of hospitals, clinics and pharmacies, giving you a wide choice of trusted providers close to home. Whichever plan you choose, you are protected against the high cost of admission, surgery and specialist care — the expenses that most often push families into financial strain.

Cover can be taken on a per-person basis, where each member has their own annual limit, or on a family-shared basis, where a single limit covers the whole family. There are six inpatient plan levels — from the entry-level Cover Me plan up to Platinum — so there is an option to match most budgets.

The whole process is online: calculate your premium and compare plans with no obligation, then complete a short medical form and pay securely by M-Pesa or card to take up cover — no paperwork or branch visit needed.

Cover options

Choosing your inpatient plan

Inpatient cover is the core of the policy and pays for hospital admission, surgery, ICU and specialist care. AAR offers six inpatient levels — Platinum, Gold, Silver Plus, Silver, Bronze and Cover Me — where the annual inpatient limit and range of benefits step up with each level. The exact limits and premium for every plan are shown instantly when you build your quote.

Per-person vs family-shared cover

On per-person cover each member has their own annual limit, which suits families that want full cover for every individual. On family-shared cover a single annual limit is shared across the whole family, which is often more affordable. You can compare both side by side in the quote.

Optional outpatient cover

Outpatient is the one optional add-on on retail medical, selected on top of your inpatient plan. It covers day-to-day care such as GP and specialist consultations, laboratory tests, imaging and prescribed medicines — and dental and optical benefits are included within it.

Maternity, dental & optical

On retail medical these come built into your cover rather than being separately-priced extras. A maternity benefit is included as standard on every inpatient plan, with a higher limit on the higher plans, while dental and optical benefits are included once you add outpatient cover.

Frequently asked questions

Your premium depends on the plan level you choose, the ages of the members being covered, the family size, whether you take per-person or family-shared cover, and whether you add optional outpatient cover. You see the exact premium for each plan instantly when you build a quote online, with no obligation to buy.

There are six inpatient plan levels — Platinum, Gold, Silver Plus, Silver, Bronze and Cover Me. The annual inpatient limit and range of benefits increase as you move up the levels, so you can choose the balance of cover and premium that fits your budget.

Per-person cover gives each member their own annual limit, so one member’s claims do not reduce another’s cover. Family-shared cover puts a single annual limit across the whole family, which is usually more affordable. You can compare both when you build your quote.

Yes. Pre-existing and chronic conditions are covered up to the applicable limit, subject to a waiting period from the start of your cover. The specific waiting period is set out in your policy documents.

On retail medical they are built into your cover rather than priced as separate extras. A maternity benefit is included as standard on every inpatient plan (with a higher limit on the higher plans), and dental and optical benefits are included when you add outpatient cover. The one optional choice you make is whether to add outpatient on top of your inpatient plan.

Treatment is accessed through AAR’s panel of hospitals, clinics and pharmacies across Kenya and the region. You can check the current provider panel before you buy to confirm your preferred facilities are included.

A principal member can cover a spouse and children on the same policy, within the plan’s eligible age bands. Cover for elderly parents is available through AAR Senior Medical, and dedicated children’s cover through Junior CAARE Medical.

Standard inpatient benefits are available from the start of your cover, while some benefits — such as pre-existing and chronic conditions, and maternity — apply after a waiting period. The exact periods are shown in your policy documents.

The whole journey is online. Build a quote to compare plans and premiums, complete a short medical form, and pay securely by M-Pesa or card — there is no paperwork or branch visit. Your cover is then set up from the details you submitted.
